Summer Househunting Tips
Aug 09, 2016
Whether you are looking to finally start building your own equity, or are looking to upgrade from your current home, the summer is a great time to get out and see what is on the market. Take these tips into consideration before you get started on your journey to homeownership this summer.
1. Get Pre-Approved
This is always our first tip for anyone beginning to look around. Getting pre-approved is important because it shows you what you can afford and it shows sellers that you are a serious buyer. Keep in mind that pre-approval doesn’t last forever, so you should be serious about buying within 30-60 days.
2. Be Flexible
During the summer, it can be expected that people are going on vacations and dealing with other priorities. If you have decided on looking at houses during the summer, you should try to keep your schedule open and accommodate the seller’s schedule. Be flexible with your dates to ensure a smooth househunting process.
3. Observe the Location
As with any season you may be looking for a new home, location is of the utmost importance! If you have kids, make sure you are researching schools in the area. Or, see what the commute will be like for work each morning. You will also want to visit the neighborhood at different times to observe noise levels and traffic patterns so that you don’t have any unpleasant surprises.
4. Close the Deal!
Once you have been pre-approved, found the home of your dreams, and secured a contract, then it is time to close the deal! Keep in mind that you should be flexible with the dates, but hopefully you will find yourself in your new home by the end of the summer so that you can sit back and relax!
